Cyclones

General Description

Multiclones are by far the most economical and efficient cyclonic collectors. But there are applications where large diameter cyclones are more appropriate.

Applications for handling sticky particulates that would plug the inlet vanes of smaller diameter cyclones.
Or handling gas which is near the dew point.

Or where extreme abrasion or very high system temperatures require special construction materials.

Or when the collector internals must be cleaned for sanitary purposes, as in the food and drug industries.

The Importance of Cyclone Design

Large diameter cyclones impart lower separating forces to particles than Multiclone collectors. Overall, the Multiclone is capable of significantly higher efficiencies.

There are however, design and construction features which maximise the effectiveness of large diameter cyclonics.

Low Pressure Drop = Lower Total System Cost

The Fowlerex Technologies design incorporates an aerodynamically designed inlet scroll minimising gas flow turbulence. System gases flow smoothly through the collector and out the low velocity outlet. Low turbulence means lower collector resistance hence lower system pressure drop for any efficiency.

These are important factors when the total cost of the control system must be considered. A 0.25kPa system pressure drop means significantly reduced fan power requirements.

Proper Proportioning and Higher Collection Efficiency

A cyclone’s barrel and cone are proportioned to force dust particles into a greater number of spins – to maximise the opportunities to collect them.

A large capacity hopper prevents dust clogging and re-entrainment.

Special Construction for Unusual Features

Cyclones are built in various plate thicknesses, 3mm, 5mm and 6mm thick available as standard.

Cyclones are available in a wide selection of materials including 304 or 316 Stainless Steel and other high temperature alloys. Carbon Steel construction is standard.

Hex mesh is installed for refractory lining – for exceptional insulating and abrasion resistance, or extremely high gas temperatures.

The Optimum Size and Arrangement

Cyclones are available in 26 standard diameters. Single, twin and quad cyclones are standard – groupings of any number can be furnished.
